Ad Positioning

Most bloggers use Google Adsense to monetize their blogs or websites but we will reach a point where what ever we do our earnings will not increase. One way to kick start an improvement in earning will be moving the position of the ads around on our blog.

Here is a few tips to help improve your earning:

Homepage
I have experimented with Google Adsense on my home page with an ad placed above the first Post title with some success but I removed them after a while. My feeling was that the adverts were irritating for your readers and made my blog messy.

You could look at placing a Large Rectangle (336 x 280) right after the first post or possibly a 468x 60.

Single Post pages
On my Single pages, I have placed a Large Rectangle (336×280) just above the content so that your readers will immediately notice them. This size of Adsense ad has been widely recognized as the best performing advert and normally has 4 adverts with the box.
As we can have 3 banners per page, I have utilized this by adding an additional box just before my comments part of my blog, this can be a good location as when they leave a comment they will notice this advert box.

Header
You may want to look at adding a leaderboard (728×90) near your header, by using a leaderboard you will create an Google Adsense advert that looks like a normal menu, which will normally increase your CTR ( click though rate).

Sidebar
Ads located here normally are not so good CTR as adverts within your content, you could experiment with a 160×600 skyscraper or maybe a menu style advert too. Keep them within the first fold of the page so to get maximum exposure.

Footer
Generally not recommended to be located here as they don’t perform well, most of the top performing ads work well at the top of a page whether it’s in the single post or on the homepage.

I have given you a few ideas on the best locations for your ads but you will have to experiment to find the best as all blogs are different, and will come down to trial and error.

Other tips to improve your earning would be experimenting with colors, displaying relevant Google Ads, removing MFA sites.
